2022 at the pump

The 25c excise cut from 15 March 2022 did not stop 91 reaching its highest yearly average to that point, 268.6c, +47.2c on 2021; diesel averaged 243.5c. It opened at 248.2c (7 January), peaked at 308.9c (1 July), touched 236.8c (23 December) and closed at 238.8c (30 December). 11 March brought the steepest rise, +18.9c; 18 March the steepest fall, −18.9c.

Crude, dollar and margin

Crude averaged US$96 a barrel and the dollar US63.6 cents across 2022. The wharf-to-nozzle slice of 91 in 2022 averaged 32.2c a litre. Premium 95 cost 17.3c more than 91 on average in 2022.

Tax lines and the diesel gap
