About
About Gatepost
An independent fuel price board for New Zealand, built from public data and updated as each source publishes.
What Gatepost is
Gatepost reads the figures the Government, the regulator and the fuel wholesalers publish, puts them on one page and keeps them. It started from a simple observation: the weekly MBIE average, the terminal gate lists and the tax rates are all public, but they sit in a spreadsheet, two PDFs and a handful of legal notices that few people read.
The name comes from the terminal gate, the point where fuel leaves the tank farm and the price is set in public, and from the farm gate drawn in the header, whose top rail is the five-year price scale.
Gatepost does not sell fuel, has no deal with any fuel company or app and is paid for by advertising. Advertising never decides what the figures say. How each one is built is set out in the method notes.
