How 2013 went

Behind the price

Dubai crude averaged US$106 a barrel in 2013, with the dollar at US82.1 cents. In 2013 the 91 margin averaged 23.1c a litre by MBIE's estimate. 2013's premium-grade surcharge averaged 10.4c.

What went to tax

In 2013, each litre of 91 carried 90.7c of tax: 43% of the pump price. Tax changed within 2013. MBIE's 91 tax line shows 61.1c to 64.1c in the week to 5 July. 63.2c separated 91 and diesel on average in 2013. Diesel ranged from 137.1c (26 April) to 153.6c (13 December).
